Aces star to miss Wings game after suffering a head injury

A’ja Wilson enters concussion protocol and will miss Friday’s game against the Dallas Wings.

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson will miss Friday’s game against the Dallas Wings as she’s in concussion protocol, the team announced. Wilson was struck in the face late in the third quarter of Wednesday’s Aces loss to the Los Angeles Sparks.

“She was bleeding,” Aces coach Becky Hammon said after the game, per ESPN. “She’s going to go to the doctor tomorrow and see what’s going on. I don’t have anything beyond that.”

Now, for the first time this season, the Aces will be without Wilson.

Wilson, a three-time MVP, has averaged 20.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2.6 blocks, and 2 steals per game so far this season. The Aces are 4-4 to begin the year.

Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings are looking for their second win of the season

The Dallas Wings, meanwhile, are searching for the second win of the year. The Wings will be without Ty Harris, who has had season-ending knee surgery, Maddy Siegrist, who is out with a right knee injury, and Teiara McCowan, who is out for the EuroBasket. DiJonai Carrington (left shoulder) and Myisha Hines-Allen (right knee) are both available after previously being listed on the injury report.

The Wings began the season 1-10 and were without rookie star Paige Bueckers as she dealt with both concussion protocol and illness, but she made her return with a 35-point night against the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday. Bueckers has led the team in scoring (17.6 points), assists (6.3), steals (1.9), and blocks (1) per game this season.
