Formula 1 announced the schedule for the 2026 F1 season ahead of this week’s Canadian Grand Prix

Formula 1 has released the schedule for the 2026 season.

Next year’s calendar again features 24 races, but there are some notable adjustments to the schedule for the upcoming season. The year begins with the Australian Grand Prix on the weekend of March 6-8, and the season once again draws to a close with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, slated for December 4-6.

With Ramadan slated for February and March, the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix are again scheduled for April, as they were in 2025. As with this season, next year’s grid will take the field from Australia to China and then Japan, before heading to Bahrain for the weekend of April 10-12.

The sport’s continued push towards sustainability and efficiency sees a rather notable calendar shift in May, setting up a conflict with one of the biggest races in all of motorsport. Following the Miami Grand Prix at the start of May, the next race on the calendar is the Canadian Grand Prix, scheduled for the weekend of May 22-24. With the Indianapolis 500 taking place on May 24, 2026, that means both that race and the Canadian Grand Prix will take place on the same day, likely in similar time slots.

Traditionally the Monaco Grand Prix was held on the same day as the Indianapolis 500, but with the Monaco Grand Prix taking place in a different time zone, that race would usually finish well before the start of the Indianapolis 500. Next season’s Monaco Grand Prix, scheduled for the weekend of June 5-7, kicks off a new European leg that will take the grid from Monaco at the start of June through the Hungarian Grand Prix at the end of July.

The 2026 schedule also includes the debut of the new race in Madrid, which is scheduled for the weekend of September 11-13. That means the grid will make two stops in Spain next season, as the race in Barcelona remains under contract through the 2026 campaign.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, held at the historic Imola Circuit, has been removed from the calendar.

Next season will see the grid grow by one team, as the incoming Cadillac F1 Team will become the 11th team in the series. 2026 also brings a new set of technical regulations to F1, with the potential to further shake up the grid.

“2026 will be a new era for Formula 1 where we will witness a brand-new set of regulations for our sport, the cars and the engines that will be powered by 100% sustainable fuel,” said F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali in a statement. “We are excited to welcome Madrid to the calendar, and to see huge automotive brands like Audi, Cadillac and Ford join the Formula 1 grid.

“It promises to be an unforgettable season, where once again we will come together at 24 amazing global venues to watch the best drivers in the world push themselves to the limit and produce incredible wheel to wheel racing for our millions of fans watching around the globe.

“I want to thank all our fans for their passionate support and the FIA, with all the volunteers, marshals and officials, as well as the promoters, partners, sponsors, host cities and the local motor racing federations for their commitment and support in delivering this schedule in what I know will be another historic year for Formula 1.”
