Georgia Redmayne, Grace Parsons help Brisbane Heat win two in two
Brisbane Heat recorded their second win on the bounce in this year's Women's Big Bash League - downing Melbourne Renegades by 28 runs at home. Jess Jonassen's side posted 169/8 in 20 overs, riding on the start provided by Georgia Redmayne (44 off 39) and the late-order surge from Laura Harris (31 off 16). Grace Parsons then dismantled the chasing side's top-order to set up the comfortable victory.
Grace Harris began with a six but fell next ball in the opening over but Brisbane marched ahead via the second-wicket stand between Redmayne and Lauren Winfield-Hill.
Six of Melbourne's seven bowlers picked at least a wicket as they constantly attempted to peg back Brisbane but the home side found key partnerships to push towards a competitive total. They fell from 73/1 to 86/4 but were immediately steadied by the pair of Harris and Jonassen, taking the team past the 120-run mark in the 15th over. Harris was key to this stand as she blazed away to 31 off 16, with a couple of fours and three sixes. From 125/5 in 15 overs, Brisbane still smashed 44 runs to finish with 169/8, with 14 of them coming in the final over.
Hayley Matthews approached the target with some fury as she took the PowerPlay by the scruff of its neck. By the end of five overs, Renegades scored 48/0 - with the West Indian accounting for 35 of it. In desperate need to put the brakes on the chase, Jonassen turned to her leggie Parsons, who struck right away. She took out Matthews and Alice Capsey to tilt the momentum back in her team's favour. In her next over, she trapped Deandra Dottin for a three-ball one.
The Renegades were constantly derailed after the PowerPlay as Shikha Pandey too bowled a double-wicket over - with Georgia Wareham getting run out and Sophie Molineux getting caught. From 71/5 in 10 overs, Renegades fell further to 83/7 in the 14th. Naomi Stalenberg and Nicole Faltum kept the flame flickering for the Renegades with a partnership that took them over the three-figure mark. But that was merely a consolatory achievement as the Renegades limped to 140/9 in 20 overs, falling well short of the target.
