SB Nation’s new login system: What you need to know

Last week we announced that SB Nation is moving to a new platform in August. As part of that change we’re upgrading to a new account & login system across all SB Nation communities. Here’s what you need to know:

You’ll be logged out on launch day (August 5) and will need to log in again. Between now and Tuesday you will continue to log in as normal.
You will use your email to log in (not your username). You must have a valid email address.

✅ Google and Facebook logins still work (you may be asked to set a password if you only have Facebook login).
✅ Apple login is now supported (but only if your Apple account uses the same email).
❌ Twitter and Yahoo logins will no longer work. If you use only Twitter or Yahoo, go to your Account Settings to add a password or Google login before August 5.
Already have an account on one of our sister sites Vox, The Verge, Eater, or New York magazine? If the email matches, your login will switch to use the method from those sites (e.g., Google login), but your SB Nation history will still be connected and your username can be unique to SB Nation. See more in the FAQ below

Your account info is safe. As long as you use the same email, all your data—username, avatar, join date (the real one), and comment count—will be preserved.

FAQs

Will I lose anything?

No. We’re not deleting any data. If anything goes wrong, contact us for help at support@sbnation.com.

What about my avatar?

Your current avatar will be migrated. You can update or remove it by going to Edit Profile. Avatar uploads will return in the weeks after launch.

What about Twitter/Yahoo users?

If Twitter or Yahoo is your only login, you’ve been seeing a message prompting you to add a password or Google/Facebook auth. If you don’t do this prior to 8/5 you’ll be asked to set a password after the switch. This process requires a valid email address to complete.

What if I already have an account on New York magazine, The Verge, Polygon, Vox, or Eater?

Our new login system is shared across all Vox Media properties. If you already have an account on one of these sites and it uses the same email as your SB Nation account then your SB Nation login method will switch to the one used on the other site(s). Some example scenarios are below:

If you currently login to SB Nation with a password and you login to The Verge via Google auth then you will login to SB Nation via Google auth.
If you login to SB Nation with the password sports123 and you login to Eater with the password food123 then you will now login to SB Nation with the password food123.
